A
Gourmet Chef In Your New Kitchen

You may or may not know this, but in a previous life David
Sturm was a gourmet chef at some of Atlanta's
leading restaurants. Digging up his old chef's hat, David gave a
client a cooking lesson in a kitchen which Attention to Detail was
in the process of remodeling.
Knowing how difficult it is to live without a kitchen, Attention to
Detail Home Remodeling strives to install the major appliances quickly
and with end-of-the-day clean-up so that your kitchen is still usable
during the remodeling process.
In an effort to show how to use all the new kitchen appliances and
proving how clean his craftsman are, David demonstrated by giving the
client a cooking lesson for a lovely gourmet meal during the remodeling
process! How's that for cleanliness in the workplace!
For those curious about cuisine, the meal was a Chicken Francaise with herbs. Arranged on the plate with a
medley roasted vegetables and garlic mashed potatoes. Yum! David said he
would be happy to do the same for the next person who has their kitchen
remodeled with Attention to Detail Home Remodeling.

Easy Water Conservation
Tips
Here
are some easy water conservation tips and products you can use for your
showers and your kitchen & bathroom sinks. Choose to do as many or as
few as you want. Remember, every little bit helps.
|
For
showers:
- Take
a clean bucket and put it in the shower to catch the cold water
while you are waiting for your water to become hot. Besides using this water to water plants, see the articles
below to find out ways to use this cold water in your everyday
household living.
- Also, try to take shorter showers. Even a few minutes
shorter will help. If you really want lots
of hot water, take a bath in the evening.
- You
can attach an aerator to your showerhead, which costs $8-50, depending on special features. Aerators use less water
by pumping air into the shower head, so you can keep strong water
pressure but use less water in the process.
·
The "Shower Start Hot
Water Saver" or the "ShowerStart
Hot Water Smart Shower Saver" screws in
between the showerhead and the shower arm, and lets the water from
your shower run until it's hot, then reduces your water flow from the
shower to a trickle. Then when you are ready to shower just flip the
switch and you get full flow again!

For
your kitchen sinks:
- If
you wash dishes by hand, take a clean pot and put it in your sink
while you are waiting for the water to warm up to wash your dishes. Use the fresh water for
your pet's water dish.
- Keep your kitchen sink a quarter filled with
soapy water to rinse your dishes before putting them in the
dishwasher.
- Hint:
You can use the water from your shower bucket to fill the soapy
water.
For
your bathroom sinks:
- Turn
off the water while you are brushing your teeth or shaving.
- Just like we mentioned in the shower, attaching an
aerator to each sink faucet can reduce your home water usage in
half, as well as cut your cost of heating the water in half. A faucet aerator costs
$5-10.

More on Water Conservation:
Replacing
& Preventing Leaky Appliances
Did you know that if you
have a leaky faucet, fixing it immediately will save you up to 20 gallons
of water per day? If you need to replace your faucet, consider replacing it with a WaterSense
labeled faucet which uses no more than 1.5 gallons per minute and will
save up to 500 gallons per year.
To prevent leaks on your
faucets:
- Replace your
old washers on your faucets with DripStop
Valves. The DripStop Valve product
is guaranteed for the life of your faucet. (For
more information click here.)
- If
your faucets leak, you may want to replace the entire faucet (and
update it at the same time). Most modern faucets are
"washer-less" and use the "ceramic disc
system". Most manufacturers now give a lifetime warranty
on leaking faucets.
Replace your old toilet
with a these water saving options:
Replacing
your old toilets (which used 3.2+ gallons per flush) with new toilets
(which use 1.6 gallons per flush or less) will significantly decrease
your water bill. There are any number of new water saving toliets.
A few examples are:
- A high efficiency
toilet, which uses less than 1.3 gallons per flush.
- A flapperless toilet, which uses 1.6
gallons per flush and guarantees no leaks, because the parts
are not submerged in water, so they will not wear out.
- A dual flush toliet. Different flushes for your
different everyday needs...

Extreme Green
For
those of our clients who want to go very green, here are a few ideas:
- Take a bucket
of water (2 gallons or more) that you have caught
when warming up your shower (see Easy Water
Conservation Tips article above)
and dump it into the bowl of your toilet the next time instead of flushing. The
force of the added water will make the toilet flush completely by
using water that you would have wasted.
- Install a cistern
- a very large water tank that is normally submerged underground
which catches rainwater runoff from the roofs of homes to irrigate
your lawn & garden. With special filters, you can use the
water for your shower supply or even as drinking water. (Ask Attention to Detail if you are interested in
installing a cistern system for your house!)
·
Replace your old toilet with a waterless composting toilet
which uses no water. Take a look at this odd looking toilet!
